"Mercedes" originally comes from a female name.
I directed a series of four short movies to portrait the female elegance in actions and dialogues. In order to get closer to exactly what I had in my mind, I ended up with taking all the roles of production, direction, writing, shooting, and editing. Poem seemed right to me, as a tool to express deep emotions. Poem is not very promotional because it does not explain. I thought a great deal of balancing the Japanese atmosphere and the global taste.
A woman comes out of the door with a pair of heels in her hand. After looking up at the sky as if checking the weather, she gets in the car. She parks the car in front of a nice little shop.
"sorry to make you wait. I buy you lunch."
She checks up on her make-up by the room mirror while getting off the car. She walks towards the entrance talking with her head around.
"We've been here before. No, not with someone else. Would you be jealous?"
Looking at the flowers by the entrance, picks up a few of them without hesitation.
"I buy flowers when I feel lucky."
"No, not afterwards. When I have a feeling."
She walks around the shop with the flowers in her hand, trying to match with the clothes and the accessories.
"I do have a feeling today(laugh)."
"lol, I know. Sometimes do, sometimes don't."
"I didn't feel lucky last week.(laugh)"
"And my feeling is always right."
She takes care of the bill and turns around walking towards the exit. Smiles back at me.
"Where do you want to go? I will take you there."
She slows down the car, and deliberately turns on the switch to open the roof. I don't think she would answer if I asked her why she made that turn. I assume that her intuition made that turn, looking for the freedom she had forgotten.
"I would like to live somewhere like this."
How much it costs to build a house... the numbers popped up into my grown-up mind.
"What would you do if you win a lottery?"
"You are like a child..."
She slowly looks out the window and widely stretched out her arms. She takes a breath and looks at me.
"I would go studying abroad, away from work."
All of a sudden, she runs off the car to a distance away and says,
"Why? Is it that surprising?"
She stares the mountains sitting in the middle of the field.
"To be honest, I wanted to become a biologist."
"Why people fall in love.. a good thesis, isn't it?"
"You could be a subject if you want."
She gets a glimpse at me for one moment, and looked back at the far mountains.
On a sofa, she takes a look at the botanical reference.
"I like restaurants with book shelves. Stimulated brain can work up appetite." The sun setting over the lake. She moves by the window and rests her chin on her hand.
"I wonder why sunset makes me feel lonely."
"I become sentimental in the evening."
Turning politely down the wine offer by the waiter, looking back at me with a little annoyed face because she is not drinking.
"Did you say you have important things to say? Say it before you start drinking."
The sunset disturb our conversation. We both stares out the window fascinated.
"What is in your mind? you dirty-minded."
"Hey, let's go for a drive."
Driving through the night on a freeway passing by the street lights.
"Fine. let's stay for the night. Take me to a lovely place."
"Let's switch seats at the next rest point. It's your turn to lead me."
"I will hear you again tomorrow morning. Right now I want be in the mood."
*The story written from man's point of view, and the movie from woman's point of view.
A woman leaning against the car by the lake. Carefully listening to the sound with her hand on her ear.
"I like the sound of morning. so soft."
She slowly walks down by the water.
"Women fall in love with sounds."
She throws a piece of stone towards the surface of the lake. A small sound of a splash. Ripples spread across the water little by little. She stares at it.
"I like your voice. ”
She smiles in the shadow against the light.
Taking off one of her shoes, dip the tip of a feet in the lake. Her face tells she is cold.
"You started talking because I said I like your voice, don't you?"
"Talking is boorish in the morning."
Put her forefinger against her lips like "shhhhh".
"Just listen carefully. Can you?(laugh)"
All of a sudden, the silence surround us.
Thank you always..."
